About the Author
Professor Jean Van Bladel is an eminent researcher and educator in fundamental electromagnetic theory and its application in electrical engineering. Over a distinguished career, he has been the recipient of many awards and honors. A Fellow of the IEEE, he was awarded the Henrich Hertz Medal of the IEEE in 1995 and the Distinguished Achievement Award of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society in 1997. With the International Union of Radio Science (URSI), he was secretary general from 1979 to 1993 and was named Honorary President in 1999. He is currently Professor Emeritus at Ghent University in Belgium.

Fantastic !!!!!!!!!

I specialize in Electromagnetic Theory and have read many texts on this subject matter. There are many very good texts out there but nothing even compares with this one. I thought this would be a copy from various other excellent books by Collin, Jackson, Felsen, etc. but I was wrong. Prof. Bladel has written everything of his own originality. There is a spark of his originality in everything ranging from the quality of explanations, the choice of subject matter, the extreme mathematical depth involved and the choice of unsolved problems. In every way, this book alone can replace five to six other ordinary books.

In elecromagnetics, the biggest problem lies in understanding. The more you learn, the lesser you understand and the mathematics can be demoralizing. And also a vast portion of the literature is scattered throughout so many books. But Dr.Bladel has beautifully brought all that together under one roof and has presented the subject in a very theoretically fine manner doing complete justice to the mathematical intricacies.

This book is a MUST if you want to call yourself a specialist in electromagnetics. It is a tome and the epitome of all good EM books !!!!!!!!! It is the "Stratton" of the 21st century !!!!!!!

Good but tough

Very good reference, but very mathematically advanced and demanding. Has tons of material beyond any intro books.
Some of the material is not easy to learn for the first time from this book. But if you have had a different intro to it then this book will provide another layer of deeper and advanced insight.

About the Author

Roy Henry Vickers is a renowned carver, painter and printmaker whose Eagle Aerie Gallery in Tofino, BC, has become a provincial landmark. In 1998, Roy was appointed to the Order of British Columbia and in 2006, the Order of Canada. He is the co-author of the immensely popular Northwest Coast Legends series and the author of several books that showcase his art, including Storyteller (Harbour Publishing, 2014). He currently lives in Hazelton, BC.

Robert (Lucky) Budd holds an MA in history and has digitized many high-profile oral history collections including that of the Nisga'a First Nation. As well as co-authoring the Northwest Coast Legends series, he is the author of Voices of British Columbia (Douglas & McIntyre, 2010), a bestseller that was shortlisted for the 2011 Bill Duthie Booksellers' Choice Award, and its sequel, Echoes of British Columbia (Harbour Publishing, 2014). About the Author
Edward Sazonov is an Associate Professor in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL, USA and the head of the Computer Laboratory of Ambient and Wearable Systems (http://claws.eng.ua.edu). Wearable devices developed in his laboratory include an accurate physical activity and gait monitor integrated into a shoe insole (SmartStep); a wearable sensor for objective detection and characterization of food intake (AIM); a wearable sensor system for monitoring of cigarette smoking (PACT); sensor systems for early diagnosis of risk of falling in elderly (ALARM) and others. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, National Academies of Science, as well as by state agencies and private industry.

Michael R. Neuman joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Technological University in 2003, as Professor and Chairman, the latter ending in 2010. Previously he held the Herbert Herff Chair of Excellence at the Memphis Joint Program in Biomedical Engineering. He served for thirty-two years on the faculty at Case Western Reserve University in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Reproductive Biology and Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Neuman was Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering from 1989 through 1996. He also edited Physiological Measurement from 2002 through 2007 and served as Editor in Chief of the biomedical engineering magazine, IEEE Pulse from 2008 through 2013. Dr Neuman’s research has been in the area of biomedical sensors and instrumentation with emphasis on clinical applications.

What a blessing

My sister and I listened to this book from Audible and I am now reading his other book. Such a sweet, well written story of despair and hope.Having just lost a husband less than a year ago, I can certainly relate to his sorrow and feelings of worthlessness - being old and useless. What a blessing this book as been to me.

An amazing feel-good story

This is a gem of a feel-good debut novel about A MAN CALLED OVE by Swedish author and blogger Fredrik Backman. It will make you laugh and make you cry and you will remember Ove for a long time.

Some would call Ove a curmudgeon, a lovely word meaning a bad-tempered, difficult, cantankerous person. His wife called him the most inflexible man in the world - he borders on being obsessive compulsive but is generally a grumpy man who doesn't tolerate fools and likes things to be done that way he wants them. While many think that he is just a rude and grumpy man, at heart you will find out that he is one of the kindest persons you will ever know.

Ove is a 59 years old widower who has just been arbitrarily retired after 30 years in the same job. His world now revolves around his home and neighbourhood housing complex where he rules the roost making sure that all local rules and regulations are followed. He is very lonely since his wife died, he quarrelled with his best friend and neighbour years ago and rarely has contact with his neighbours.

Ove's world is one of anger and sadness. One day a new neighbour accidentally flattens Ove's mailbox driving in an area where vehicles are prohibited. This starts a very amusing, heartwarming and frequently very sad story as Ove's rigidly structured world is disrupted by unexpected friendship from Parvaneh, a vivacious small and very pregnant Iranian woman who has moved in next door with her Swedish husband Patrick and two girls. Parvaneh is perhaps the only person who can take on Ove directly and win, and starts to change his life for the better.

We also go back to how Ove met his vivacious and loving wife Sonja who was the direct opposite of Ove. At a critical time in her life she said to him "We can busy ourselves with living or dying, Ove. We have to move on." Now a widower Ove is struggling to move on.

This is one of the best feel-good stories I have read for some time and it gets a place in my best books for 2014. I strongly recommend it to someone who wants to read something different that will hit at your heart. If you are emotionally affected by books I strongly suggest keeping a box of tissues handy.

I absolutely loved this book

This was one of those accidental finds--meandering through book choices and came across it. I absolutely loved this book. It is funny, tender, thoughtful and thought-provoking. The character of Ove seemed a bit too curmudgeony at first, but as his story unfolded, it all fit. A touching perspective on loss and what it means to choose life and figure out one's new role as a loner. It also celebrates the importance of coincidence and embracing what life brings.
Laughed out loud and blubbered like a baby--what more can one ask of a book? Heartily recommend A Man Called Ove.
