I Almost Cried For Poor Cloud!

Wonderful story about Cloud who needs a friend. We follow poor little Cloud as he tries to find a friend. He doesn't understand that his tears become rain on everyone. I love the ending, so sweet and charming.
Bravo for this first book by Grandma and granddaughter. Hope to see many more!! What a wonderful way for them to share time together!

When I wrote Date Night during National Novel Writing Month in 2013, my intention was to write a single book. However, I was sharing snippets of my book on a writing forum and one of the other authors made a comment about how yummy the character Jared was and asked if he was going to get his own book. Hmmm...I really hadn't planned on it. But the comment started the wheels turning in my head.

Fair Game was such a fun book to write because Jared and Leah are adversarial in the beginning. It was interesting to write about Jared's actions as a jerk - and yet all the while his thoughts are completely the opposite because he's in love with Leah. It really goes to show that one never truly knows the private thoughts of others.

One of the most interesting aspects of this series is that the two love stories (Jordan and JT in Date Night and Jared and Leah in Fair Game) are actually happening concurrently. In fact, four scenes from Fair Game are directly out of the book Date Night but written entirely from the perspective of Leah and Jared. I hope the readers will find those scenes as fun and interesting as I did when I wrote them.

Fun Facts: The hero in Fair Game is modeled after my real life nephew Jared (physical attributes, family member names...and maybe a few personality traits) and the heroine in Date Night is modeled after my real life niece Jordan (physical attributes, family member names...and all of her outfits I stole from FB pictures!). So naturally I have to write a book for my niece Tyler as well. I'm in the process of writing Begin Again - book 3 in the Wish Come True serires. Tyler was introduced in Date Night briefly as Jordan and Jared's cousin and makes another appearance in Fair Game. Her story is coming soon...as soon as I can get it down on paper.

This is another great read from RC Matthews. It's a continuation from her first book "Date Night" which I also highly recommend. Jared and Leah's story.

Jared's sister Jordan is Leah's best friend. So she's off limits to date right? Wrong. Jared has been in love with her for a better part of his life. When Jordan started dating Jared's best friend that opened the door for him to pursue Leah. She has issues with Jared because he wants to become a Doctor. Leah's Dad is a Doctor and never had time for her because he was always working. She swore that she would never date or become involved with a Doctor because of this. Yes, she has Daddy issues.

Jared is finishing his classes and going through finals. On a bet one night in the bar he gets to spend time with Leah. Trying not to wear his heart on his sleeve he pursues her. Slowly he is breaking through her barrier of dislike for men in the medical field. They find that they have a spark which can only be satisfied between each other.

If you enjoy books that continue in a series you'll definitely enjoy this one.

A captivating read that had me turning page after page until the very last one.

Leah and Jared are quite the pair, the perfect pair to be exact. Resisting each other was easy…until now. With Jared’s sister openly dating his best friend, it’s his time to shine. He has loved Leah, his sister best friend, for all his life. Now that he knows ‘the best friend’ is no longer off limits, he will do anything he can to win her heart.

I loved that it was made clear from the very start what intentions Jared had and that Leah was against it all. Well…her mind was against the idea but her heart was another story. They made me laugh and they had me hoping through the entire book that Jared would find a way to help Leah get past her fears. As I’ve said before, Matthews knows how to put family and love into a story perfectly. This family has won my vote all over again!

Oh! I also enjoyed getting a small recap of her last story, one of which both Jared and Leah were involved in. It let me see specific moments through Jared and Leah eyes that made me enjoy those scenes all over again.
This was one of the cutest reads I have had the pleasure of reading in a while. It didn’t have any crazy drama that made me worry how they were going to fix it. It was just a simple love story on falling in love and the fears that come along with it.

R.C. Matthews is a new author for me whose books I have come to enjoy. She is an author who never fails to provide a well written and easy read.

Her next book is Begin Again, the third of her Wish Come True Series and I will definitely be picking up a copy. You don’t have to read them in the order they come out but, you will want to read them all!

Another perfect love story from R.C. Matthews

I loved this book! After reading Date Night, I thought I had both Jared and Leah figured out – but this book changes all of that. This book expands each of their characters and made me want a happy ending for them just as much as I wanted one for Jordan and JT. It was so interesting to see their perspectives on scenes that happened in Date Night – it really proves that you never can be 100% sure about how another person is thinking or reacting to different situations. I particularly loved seeing a whole new side to Jared – and how he patiently removed each of the barriers to a relationship that Leah put up. I also liked that this story provided a glimpse at the future – I appreciate knowing that the happily ever after really does continue on into the future.

With an ecumenical sensitivity, Haught examines those elements common to the major religions and to religion generally. In language accessible to the lay reader, Haught first looks at the many ways in which religion has manifested itself by considering what he perceives as the four key elements of all religions: sacramentalism, mysticism, silence, and activism. He then discusses the value of religion and also considers the aims of religion, which he sees as reassurance, mystery, adventure, and morality, and the various challenges to religion: secularism, skepticism, and nihilism. Haught is familiar enough with all the major traditions so that he is able to make cogent comparisons, offering a good deal of basic information.

Too Speculative for Intro Text

In "What is Religion" John Haught examines religion from a liberal socio-cultural perspective. I offer the following thoughts for potential readers. Haught is a capable writer - the text is generally well laid-out and quite readable. The book is divided into three primary segments:

- An introduction and brief overview of what he considers to be the primary approaches to religion: primitive, Hinduism, Buddhism and prophetic (Judaism, Christianity and Islam);
- An examination of different types of religious behaviors: silence, mysticism, sacramentalism and action; and.
- A discussion of some of the modern challenges to a religious worldview.

The work appears to be aimed as an introductory text in a religious studies class or comparative religion course. Haught approaches religion from a socio-cultural perspective. The crucial assumption to this tact is that religious beliefs are adaptive evolutionary developments rather than outlooks that possess any inherent truth value. In accordance with this view religion is "true" because we believe it, rather than believing it because it is true. This is certainly a legitimate approach to the history of religion and is quite common amongst nineteenth and early twentieth century commentators within the field of comparative religion.

I found the discussion of religious behavior to be particularly well handled and helpful. Given that the work is intended as an introductory text, however, some qualifying comments at the outset are warranted to identify assumptions and indicate that there are opposing views. Without this type of clarification some of his comments are misleading - Haught is prone to making highly speculative statements without the slightest equivocation or justification. For example, he makes several declarative statements regarding the supposed origins and evolutionary development of religious belief. Though his thesis in this regard is consistent with his worldview it is pure speculation. When all is said and done there is an absence of historic evidence in this regard and we have just don't know a great deal on this topic. In addition to this type of conjecture he often contradicts existing evidence and scholarly opinion without the slightest qualification. For instance, he claims that Judaism was not a clearly monotheistic religion prior to about 500 B.C.E! This opinion is on the fringe of contemporary scholarship. I am not saying that he shouldn't speculate (some of it is quite interesting) just that he should note that these are controversial - a couple of footnotes would suffice.

I agree with the author that there are underlying similarities between the different traditions - e.g. risk of over attachment to the material world. I think, however, that he takes Ecumenicalism too far, seeing agreement where it does not exist, and glossing over many significant differences between the faith traditions.

Overall Haught is not without skill as a writer and with some largely stylistic changes this would not be a bad introductory-level text. As it is, however, the text is too much of a fringe work to be of much help to its intended audience.

However, you need to read and study the book before you are
actually ready to read and understand this book!!

Not a beginers book, but an intense journey through the
expressions, pathways, aims and critiques of Religion.
The author sets this book up to merge different points
together to understand the parts of religion and how
they work together to create the terms of a religion.

Rather than being consistent across phenomena within individual languages, weight turns out to be sensitive to the particular processes involved such that different phenomena display different distributions in weight criteria. The book goes on to explore the motivations behind the process-specific nature of weight, showing that phonetic factors explain much of the variation in weight criteria between phenomena and also the variation in criteria between languages for a single process. The book is unlike other studies in combining an extensive typological survey with detailed phonetic analysis of many languages. The finding that the widely studied phenomenon of syllable weight is not a unified phenomenon, contrary to the established view, is a significant result for the field of theoretical phonology. The book is also an important contribution to the field of phonetically-driven phonology, since it establishes a close link between the phonology of weight and various quantitative phonetic parameters.

Fun art with great stories

[[VIDEOID:mo1NZVTNNUQAZV9]]It's great to be back in the world of Toy Story. It's like meeting old friends with that feeling of nostalgia.

There are 176 pages, 16 more pages that previous Pixar art books. You'll see new toys, colour scripts, storyboards, sculptures, sketches and some photographs. Some pieces of art from Toy Story 2 were also included. Many pieces of art are digitally created, which is how it's done these days. It doesn't take away anything though, the art is still good. Colour studies from Dice Tsutsumi and Robert Kondo are beautiful, just like the one on the cover. And so are all the art from other artists.

The writeup is marvelous. There so much more to read compared to previous Pixar art books. I can see Author Charles Soloman has talked to a lot of people and done some good research. The commentary is filled with lots of quotes from the staff, interesting stories and insight into Toy Story. You'll read about the legacy of Toy Story, the updates to this movie, story sequences, the characters and other details right down to how Andy's neighbour decorates his lawn.

For the most part, the commentary is really about the plot and the characters. Nuances and deliberations to every story decisions are explained. Many of the ideas translated to screen are actually from personal life experiences. This film is clearly a piece of love for everyone who worked on it and you'll feel that love and level of commitment on every page you read.

I'm pretty sure this is going to be one of Pixar's most touching film to date.

Highly recommended. It's a great book for all Pixar fans.

The toys are back in town in an incredible making-of book

Many years after PIXAR had made its successful sequel to "Toy Story," rumors circulated high and low that a "Toy Story 3" was in the works. This film at one point was scheduled as a non-PIXAR sequel when Disney and PIXAR had a falling out, but when new leadership managed to bring PIXAR back into the company, PIXAR was able to stop the 'imposter' and resume plans for their own idea.

Charles' Solomon's look into PIXAR is a gem in that during the first pages of the book, it takes fans and readers back, to examine a little of the first two films, before the creative team delves into development of the toy's latest adventure. It is interesting seeing how times have evolved, as on one opening page, we see two color studies. One is from 1994 done in pastels, and one is from 2008 done in a digital paint program.

The book is a trove of color studies, character concepts, clay sculptures, and really gives, to me, one of the most thorough analysis of a PIXAR film in a long time. Some of the making-of books seem a bit hodge-podge, but this has an underlying narrative that gets you into the heads of those at PIXAR, as well as their latest creation.
