Great update

This new version of Zarb has been greatly improved. New drawings and schemes; step-by-step tables and new chapters including a modified Massad impression technique (to make a definitive impression on the first appointment) and a chapter dedicated to overdentures.
I had the previous version and this one is more clear, faster to read and very didactic. I can only recommend this new review of this bible of prosthodontics.

I have just finished reading this, and it is very informative and knowledge-dense. Particularly well arranged chapters and narrative. The star I'm refraining from giving is because I am inclined to feel like the author does seem to express a little bit of subjectivity towards implant procedures. While implants, by intuition, are much simpler than surgical techniques, it is still clear that the author tries to somewhat push the idea of that fact a little further, which sometimes goes beyond the scope of the purpose of the book, which is meant to educate.

To leave this on a positive note, this is a very good book. I would highly recommend it for anyone who needs to educate themselves in this particular topic. It covers all what needs to be known, and the knowledge in it is conveyed in a manner that's very reader-friendly. Having read other books before, I like ones like this, where the publisher does not "assume" that you know something, but rather picks you up from the basics onwards. Provided, of course, that you do have somewhat a mere base level background on the scope of prosthodontics treatment, and a base-line background on anatomy.

Aside from that, this book is not, in any sense of the word, you go-to book for implants. You can feel the subjectivity regarding the description of implantology. It's as if you feel like the next edition would say that it'd be better to extract all your teeth and replace them with implants. Because implants are the best. Every disadvantage according to this book is NOT really a disadvantage. It's as if it goes to say that even the surgeon who lacks skill can use implants as their toy, because there is absolutely nothing that could go wrong with them. Very subjective, extremely bias, and non-educational.

Useful for either Organ or Clavier

Johann Jakob Froberger was a master of keyboard music. This collection, a Dover reprint, contains dozens of toccatas, ricercari, fantasias and capriccios, all beautifully engraved and readable at either piano (harpsichord) or organ. All the pieces are set in two staff notation and for the most part can be played at the piano. There are a very few instances where a foot pedal of the organ would be helpful where a large reach in the left hand occurs, but 99% of the music is realizable on the piano. In those rare instances, a rolled chord will suffice on the piano, not so on the harpsichord. This music, incidentally, sounds beautiful on the modern piano.

I was particularly surprised, since this was my first exposure to Froberger's keyboard music in any quantity, at the great creative variety and awesome invention in these pieces. Much early baroque music has been overlooked, in my opinion, due to the overwhelming productivity and creative genius of late baroque composers like JS Bach, Domenico Scarlatti, and Handel. But more and more 17th century keyboard music is making its way into affordable reprints. The period was one of great importance in the evolution of baroque music and deserves much greater attention than it has received to date.

I cannot recommend this volume highly enough.

For serious intercesors

This is a very easy to read, well-written book and practical book for intercessors. It tells you what you need to know if you have a heart for praying for others in a powerful way. It is not a formula for getting what you want from God here and now in that manipulative way so beloved of many name it and claim it tele-evangelists. It will appeal to those who have a genuine heart for God and want to do his will here on earth. I had many spiritual encounters with God while prayerfully reading this book.

This book on prayer is the best I've encountered. Very concrete teaching and examples are very helpful. Many books on prayer are less specific, more vague. Deals with many varied areas of prayer, making it a book you want to reference repeatedly. I'd originally read a book loaned by a friend, but realized I wanted a copy of my own for reference. Very helpful for everyone from prayer newbies to more experienced prayer teams.

Loved this book ...spent a week at the Bald Head Island Conservancy which operates a nationally recognised Sea Turtle Protection program and is the only non governmental agency in N.Carolina allowed to conduct turtle identification and satellite tracking of sea turtles. The book was an excellent resource and adjunct to the teaching of the sea turtle biologists at the Conservancy. Plus the illustrations are beautiful!!

Dr. Spotila is continuing his dedication and commitment to the world's sea turtles with his new book, "Sea Turtles: A Complete Guide to Their Biology, Behavior, and Conservation." With this book, he masterly synthesizes the scientific literature and his experiences into a form understandable to a lay public and useful for educators, politicians, students, and conservationists. For scientists, the book becomes a model of blending science, conservation strategies, art, and action. For educators, it tells the story.

I bought this book right after seeing it in the bookstore. I've since bought another copy to give to a teacher who invited me to give a talk on sea turtles to her students, so that I leave the teacher, and her students, with a more permanent "sea turtle presence" in the classroom. It is the perfect book to leave in a classroom (without giving away my own copy).

The printing quality is excellent, the price is very competitive, and the editing is professional. I recommend Dr. Spotila's book with no reservations. I will buy more copies in the near future. Sea turtles deserve this positive, and sobering, exposure.

Ruth Dowson has over 30 years' experience in strategic development, management and delivery of events, conferences, seminars and exhibitions, in both the public and private sectors. She teaches Events Management at the UK Centre for Events Management, Leeds Beckett University.

David Bassett is an experienced event organizer and educator in events management, leisure, sports, and tourism. He educates and trains aspiring events managers and industry practitioners at the UK Centre for Events Management, Leeds Metropolitan University.

So-so

Here is a concise, “get started” practical handbook that aims to offer guidance to those who may need to plan and host events.

The reader, who is probably working within public relations, event management or a related area, is promised a quick guide to the world of events and event planning before going deep into subjects such as location selection, content, logistics, budgeting, procurement and evaluation.

It is a bit of a mixed bag, as it mixes up theory and academic models whilst aiming towards practical matters with examples, case studies and many external resources. There did appear to be a bit of an identity crisis within the pages, leading to a fair bit of text feeling as if it was padding and overly basic and not keeping with the rest of the book. Fortunately, the book is not overly expensive; so one could even ignore the irrelevancies, but should one really need to go to this extreme?

Yet time after time this reviewer really does wonder who the book is aimed at! Some of the nuggets of information are interesting, fascinating even, but it is far from being the go-to guide that it wishes to be. Neither is it a book that you may throw at a student or absolute beginner, even though they may get something out of it. In quite a few places it seemed to get an award for stating the bleeding obvious in a particularly banal way, such as: “Make sure the choice of location and venue fits with the objectives and style of your event, as well as the image and reputation of the client and their organization.”

Some parts, such as the art of searching for the right venue, feel to be on the right track and lift the mood of an otherwise grumpy reviewer. Here one could start to sense some value and validation of the book. Other parts, telling about event execution that features real-world examples such as the use of tablets on each guest table, synchronised with event information, menus and sponsors’ messages could be worth the price of the book itself. After all, it might just need one good tip to make your next event go even better…

Sadly, overall one has to be fairly neutral about the book. It set out with much promise but didn’t deliver. To use an event analogy, the execution of the event failed to match the advertising hype. The event was not a total washout, but neither was it something you may whole-heartedly endorse or rush to sit through again.

gives a good overview

As an event planner, I understand the complexity comprised within this industry. The interests of the client are always changing. Innovative ideas are always updating methods of approach. Regulations are always keeping us on alert. Keeping informed and knowledgeable is essential in event planning and having access to such information as contained in this book is rewarding. As an experienced planner or a novice I believe reviewing materials provides information forgotten, overlooked, or unknown is extremely helpful.

I enjoyed reading this particular manual for a few reasons. One it is written from two event planning professionals from the UK which offered perspectives to planners in other countries. Depending on where you land a job as an event planner, you may find yourself working with others in different countries and learning their way of handling issues. This book gives some idea of what to expect.

Secondly, I liked how the authors broke down the industry and explained the significance of each area. It truly gives a good overview of all aspects involved in the various event types and what type of staffing each would need.

Thirdly, the breakdown of an event process was well thought and provided step by step development. It was insightful to see their process and its application.

I recommend this book highly to those in the event field or interested in pursuing it.
